Frequently asked questions

How does Tech Stack Detector identify the technologies behind a website?

It fetches the page exactly once and analyzes multiple signals at the same time: HTTP response headers, the HTML source, JavaScript globals, script and stylesheet URLs, generator meta tags, cookies, and the domain's DNS records (nameservers, mail servers, CNAME). Each matched signal contributes to a probabilistic confidence score per technology.

Which technologies can be detected?

More than 240 technologies across 21 categories, including programming languages (PHP, Python, Node.js), frameworks (React, Next.js, Vue, Laravel, Django, Rails), CMS platforms (WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, Webflow, Wix), e-commerce systems (Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento), servers (Nginx, Apache), CDNs (Cloudflare, Akamai, Fastly), hosting providers, analytics and monitoring tools, advertising pixels, payment providers, and more. Where possible the version in use is shown too.

What extra details does a scan include?

Beyond the technology list, every fresh scan includes a website lookup: the server IP addresses and reverse DNS, nameservers and mail (MX) records, the TLS certificate issuer and expiry date, the HTTP protocol version, a security-header checklist, the redirect chain, page language, page size, and counts of scripts, stylesheets and third-party domains.

Can it tell if a website was built with AI (vibe coded)?

Yes, when the site was made with an AI app builder. Every scan includes an AI builder check that recognises Lovable, Bolt.new, v0, Replit, Base44, Manus, Anything, Emergent and YouWare from the fingerprints those platforms leave behind, and shows the evidence. It cannot detect code written with AI assistants such as Cursor, Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, which leave no public trace, so it never labels a site as hand-coded.

What does the confidence score mean?

Each detection signal has a weight between 0 and 1. When several signals match the same technology, their weights are combined probabilistically (1 − ∏(1 − cᵢ)), so multiple independent matches push the confidence towards 100%. An "Implied" badge means the technology was inferred from another one, for example Next.js implies React.

Is it free and do I need an account?

Yes. Scanning is completely free and requires no registration. Your recent scans are kept in a private, browser-scoped history so you can revisit them.

Does the scan affect the website being analyzed?

No. The scanner performs a single, ordinary HTTP page request, the same as a normal browser visit, and never logs in, submits forms, or crawls additional pages.
